Electronic I-94 Roll out Plan

As the deadline nears for the electronic I-94 to go live approaches, there seems to be an increasing anxiety on how smooth is the transition going to be.

From what I gather the CBP seems to be on track to rolling out the system on April 26, 2013 and the first electronic I-94 on April 30, 2013.  The implementation planned over a 4 week period starts with the roll out of the system on April 30, 2013 at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Orlando International Airport, Las Vegas Airport, Chicago O’Hare and Miami International Airport.

On May 7, 2013 the systems is expected to be rolled out at Airports, Sea ports and field offices in New York, Boston, Buffalo, Baltimore, Detroit, Atlanta, Tampa, Puerto Rico, Miami, Chicago, New Orleans and Houston

Week 3 will see the roll out happen at Pre-Clearance, San Francisco, Hawaii, Guam, Tucson, El Paso, Seattle, Portland, Alaska, Los Angeles, San Diego and Laredo.

Finally starting May 21, 2013 we can expect the roll out to happen across the US.

With the rollout of the electronic I-94 there will be some procedural changes

    • • Data for the I-94 will be collected from the APIS system
    • • The stamp on the passport will now contain the date of admission, class of admission, and the date that the traveler is admitted until
    • • Travellers will also receive a flier that would inform them about the website where they can login and get information about their admission record.
    • • On exiting the US the CBP would use the airline manifest information to update the system about the departure of the traveller.

For more information and a FAQ on the electronic I-94 can be found in the fact sheet released by the CBP that can be accessed at
